If one of the judge gave 9.5 instead of 9.0, the gold and silver would have switched places. That's how close it was, and the silver diver went for a 4.1 diff hail marry, nailing it too and still came up 0.5 short... harsh.

I thought the silver medalist should have been scored a little higher on this final dive... he executed pretty much perfectly. why not a 9.5..? I think he should have won Gold for that dive

Yang Jian knew he didn’t get gold when he saw the score. He was clearly disappointed at the score. He thought he scored at least 114 which he got before. But when he saw 112 he knew that wouldn’t be enough to win unless Cao Yuan screwed it up at the last dive. When he saw that he didn’t he knew he lost and was very upset at the score.

To my eyes though, I thought his score was fair. It wasn’t perfect you can see that from the splash.
