Malaysia has the people, the brains to handle this problem but it can only happen if mindsets change. What the people have now in the government are greedy leaders who would eventually ruin the country, or inadvertently let others colonise the nation again not physically but virtually through cyberspace. And then the country would be a sitting duck. Can Malaysia have its own Big Techs? Yes, it can if they put all effort into protecting the nation. It may or may not be too late for that, but better do something now than wait. Finally, everyone ought to pray for God's strength and calmness. The storm has already begun. It's all up to the Captain to navigate his vessel in the safest way possible.

Malaysia is not the only country caught in between. All other countries are the same. But Malaysia will find it harder because we do not have competent leadership. Neither here nor there. Low quality education. Minimal innovation. High bureaucracy, high corruption index, racial policies. Very hard to attract investment with such environment. Even home grown businesses like Grab move down to Singapore.

Which country does Malaysia stand to benefit the most? USA is the only superpower that likes to interfer with domestic issues of other countries. Not to mention the ban on Malaysian palm oil. USA govt is behind many subversion and covert operations against many countries that they don't like. Human lives are meaningless to them. I know who I rather be with. Regardless it is always best to not just rely on one egg and spread the risk over several places.

If I were you I rather stand up against China and USA. Building out own tech and reject all those big tech for ourselves. This is just saying but doing it is a question. Instead as a neutral I rather going to our own side. Not USA or China for sure.
