“And firmly pray arrive the day
He’s never more to roam”

Probably my favourite part.
At first it sounds like a young maiden praying and hoping that her lover will return to her having satisfied his thirst for adventure and danger, so that they can settle down and be together, live happily. It’s innocent and sweet.

… but then you realise that this is sung by a siren who’s trying to lure a sailor to his death, and suddenly him “not roaming anymore” takes on a much darker and more eerie meaning…

Just to clarify, for people who didn't know "gay" used to mean happy/glad or...we'll jolly.

I just realised that the line “Conversing with a young lass who seemed to be in pain, saying “William, when you go I fear you’ll ne’er return again”.” Is in fact the mermaids reciting an interaction they overheard between Will and Elizabeth, they even described him accurately “his hair, it hangs in ringlets, his eyes as black as coal.”

Imagine being out in the middle of the ocean and hearing this

This makes me believe that sirens are among us. This can't be a simple human voice. Every time I listen to this, I am at someplace else in my brain I didn't know existed!

This and, "Come Little Children" from Hocus Pocus are the two most entrancing and hypnotic songs ever.

IF HUMAN CAN SING SO BEAUTIFULLY, IMAGINE HOW BEAUTIFUL A SIRENS VOICE WOULD BE?

I’m listening to this while it is poring and lightning outside. I can just see the open ocean and huge waves. Such a magical song.

Welp. Guess I'm drowning, because there's no way I'm not following this gorgeous voice into the waters.

Serious Plot Twist: The mermaids actually learned this song by listening every night to the singing of the lighthouse keeper's widow, Maria. She flung herself from the rocky cliffs at Mermaid's Cove after receiving news that her husband William had drowned at sea while sailing home from the War of Spanish Succession, and that's why the lighthouse is abandoned by the time of Pirates Of The Carribbean 4.

Haunting, eerie, flowing, beautiful. Like the sea itself

FUN FACT: in Greek most ancient myths mermaids are NOT hostile but only looking for love.
the ones we see in pirates is a cross between a siren and mermaid.

I read a tumblr post about how magically creatures never really went extinct they just mates with humans and sometimes people show the different species within them through their talents.

If that is true then you are decedent from the sirens

We played this from a loud speaker in the middle of a foggy lake. Needless to say we were all creeped out the entire way back to shore.

This voice is not human. Truly, it's something else
