Being the shortest Upanisad with just 12 mantras, the Māṇḍukya Upaniṣad possesses the quintessence of the entire Upaniṣadic teachings. It explores the entire range of human consciousness in the three states of waking (jagrat), dream (svapna) and deep sleep (suṣupti).
