The DAF 66 had a gearbox that meant you could drive JUST AS FAST as you could in a forward gear... IN REVERSE

Going along in one them DAF cars and someone rolled the window down, the roof caved in by about 6 inches due to air pressure difference, we were going down a big hill fast. The metal used for the bodywork was so thin it like cooking foil.

The newer BMW boxers really do sound good. The rest all have a distinctive droning sound I really can't stand. Like a Honda VTX1800, it's best to keep the exhaust nice and quiet.

I'm note sure about some of those examples - whatever - Did you know that Velocette had horizontally opposed engines (both air-cooled and water cooled) one was in the LE Velocette. You gave an aero engine too - so you might check out the Bristol Cherub - (now they make much noise).

Flat twin cars are great. Perfect balance, economical, and you can race them everywhere you go and never get a speeding ticket.

Nothing about the Citroën flat twin engine (2 CV, AMI 6, AMI 8, Méhari and more...). Nothing about the Panhard flat twin, which was used among many others by the American engineer Bill Devin, who built racing fiberglass cars.
