55 Society was constructed between 1840 - 1842 as The High School of Charleston. The school moved to the corner of King and Radcliffe in 1881 and from that time until the 1930’s the property was leased to a series of African American fraternal orders. The building was rehabilitated into 4 luxury condominiums in the1980’s.
