One of the things that people haven't considered is the conflict that each and every vehicle has when sharing a road. It's probably the most unpredictable problem for an autonomous vehicle to overcome. UNTIL, we realise that all the autonomous vehicles will be communicating, as part of the obvious standard. Then each and every vehicle will be able to interact at a speed far beyond any human ability. They will turn in front of each other. Stop in front of each other. Accelerate in front of each other, with beautiful, precision. No accidents related to vehicular interactions will occur. Therefore, people who continue to drive manually will pay for all of the insurance necessary to cover the sector and that will make manually driven cars too expensive.

This reminds me of how Google got an early start with the search engine. They attracted the best talent on the planet. Because of it's early lead and superior code, they had the most users to train and improve their software. It resulted in a lead that just couldn't be overcome.

That is unless you own the stock, wish you owned the stock, drive their car(s), know someone who drove their car(s), or even have any idea what's happening here. My friends who retired from GM after spending decades of their entire careers there, are very pleased with their Tesla, and their TSLA, even if they probably can't talk rave about it while in Michigan. You know who you are.
