The ostwald process generates both nitric and nitrogen dioxide which actually if after passing through the 1st absorber the gases can be scrubbed by a solution of NaOH yielding sodium nitrite instead of nitric acid.

This is exceptional experiment im currently running a berklineyde reactor to make sodiiom nitrite and i made 50g of sodioum nitrite /sodioum nitrate mixture from it

go for KOH, the KNO2 is very soluble, while KNO3 is not so soluble
calcium nitrate + sodium formate also works by heating at +300*C
NO is better for nitrite, NaOH + NO = NaNO2 + H?
it may also be made by nitric acid dilute + copper = NO

oswald isnt pure NO, its also NO2
NaOH + NO2 = NaNO3 + NaNO2
