Punjab Elections | AAP Pitches For Change, But Will That Translate Into Victory For Party?

As the countdown for polling begins, the Aam Aadmi Party is making a big push to dislodge the traditional parties, the congress, the Akali Dal and the BJP from the poll bound state of Punjab. The party is wooing Punjabis with the slogan of change. AAP is talking about issues like unemployment among the youth. It is promising Delhi Model of governance focussing on infrastructure building in education and heath sectors. Punjab with 117 assembly seats is witnessing a multi-corner contest. In 2017 the party won just 20 seats but this time some opinion polls have given AAP an edge over other parties in Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party chief ministerial candidate and two time Lok Sabha MP Bhagwant Mann is pitted against Congress Chanranjit Singh Channi, Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Badal and Amrinder Singh who is in alliance with the BJP. The elections in Punjab are taking place close on the heels of the farmer agitation that lasted for more than a year forcing the BJP government to revoke three farm laws. AAP will be hoping that the anger of farmers towards the BJP government will swing things in its favour.
