This moment to me is just as iconic as when Whitebeard stated the one piece is real, the way they showed the cherry blossoms after Dadan yelled for Luffy to not be defeated was reminiscent of when Whitebeard had his famous speech and ironically the cherry blossoms in the panel of him remembering Roger.

Dadan's sadness and tears definitely hurt and affected Garp more physically and emotionally than her punches did.

I just watched the episode on Netflix. I just sat and watched it. Ace was family to Windmill Village. Mariko broke down and cried that made my heart sank. Especially when she taught Luffy and Ace manners. I felt bad as she was their older sister.

Scenes like this really pushes anime a “cartoon” to the levels of prime movies and tv series in terms of emotional impact. People need to study scenes like this if they want to make meaningful shows with love actors.

I remember when people conplained about characters not dying enough in one piece and just like that 2 powerful figures in the story not only because of strength but portrayal, gone. I've read a lot of manga and watched a lot of anime and Ace's death is probably up there with one of the saddest because of how much he meant to a protagonist and story.
