Another way to prevent someone’s stealing your tailgate is LOCKING IT!!! I got a 05 tundra with a high rise canopy on it and I lock the canopy and tailgate always. Hadn’t had a potential break in ever and if they did try the handles it would immediately deter them because their locked.

My 1984 Mazda B2000 tailgate removed the exact same way. Actually I do believe tailgates have been removed like that since the 50's.

Great idea, but the tools for the "tamper proof" bolts aren't very expensive or hard to find.
But making it harder IS a good idea. Stay safe.
