One of my favorite synths in my vintage collection.
The Oberheim OB-Xa Analog Synthesizer from the year 1980

I have the Oberheim OB-X too and I played the OB-8 and the new OB-X8 in the studio.
All OB synths sounds different. The sound character is similar but not identical. The most powerful synth is the OB-X. The OB-Xa is perfect for pads sounds. More lush sound. The new X8 sounds more modern. All is a matter of taste.

I owned an OB-X 8-voice back in the day, which was way cool. I was fortunate enough to be friends with the great T Lavitz (RIP) of the Dixie Dregs at the time, and the Dregs came down to Miami to play an outdoor show at Florida International University. I, of course, went to see them and T excitedly grabbed me and said: "Come see this !!!" Lo and behold, he had a brand-new OB-Xa, and he started showing me the split keyboard and the controls and such. And right there on stage, in front of the gathering audience, we played "Heart and Soul" on a $4500 USD synth, laughing our heads off with the audience clapping and cheering !!! What a pair of goofballs !!!

Due to finances, I only use software, but I know this beast is so strong but can do such soft, lovely, glassy tones without losing the strength!
Good idea coupling with (what I assume is a) Taurus. Good choice.

Der Soundcharakter von Oberheim ist einfach unverkennbar (auch trotz der Unterschiede der verschiedenen Modelle). Ich denke der neue OB X8 versucht so nah wie möglich diesen Charakter zu erreichen. Preislich leider auch😜 Trotz allem alles tolle Instrumente. Von der preisgünstigen Hommage konnte ich mir noch kein Bild machen. Danke für die Demonstration

Somebody is selling an OB-8 locally, but, no. He dropped the price from €6000, to €4800, to €4.50. So I sent him a message that he might want to check the price.

Yes, it sounds absolutely wonderful. I think that the old Oberheims and the Jupiter-8 are the synths that made me fall in love with synths in general.

I've been on the lookout for a Cheetah MS6, which reputedly is like a more usable Matrix-1000, but they're rare, and asking prices are getting silly. Ah well.
