How to use Speak Screen on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch — Apple Support

With Speak Screen, you can have your device read to you. Just turn it on in Settings, then swipe down with two fingers from the top of your screen to have the text read out loud.

Why it doesn’t work consistently? Two finger swiping down doesn’t work every time. Some times closing X button is not there. Why the speech speed is limited only up to 2X speed. Before everything was working but now it needs jiggling with this gestures and it’s annoying trying to swipe ten or more times to activate speak screen function. Also after activation with all this hard work with gestures it stops.

thanks for the video and the speak screen option. every time i use the two fingers nothing happens. the page just refreshes(if anything). am i doing something wrong? or when i use two fingers i'll get control center. speak screen is not starting for me at all.

Hi, it is really hard to adjust the speech rate. The slider goes from 0x to 4x. 4x is way too fast for anything. And it’s really hard to navigate to 1.2 or 1.3 and impossible to adjust to 1.1. Please bring back the turtle and rabbit buttons to be able to easily adjust speech rate in .1x increments. Right now it’s only .5x, 1x, 1.5x, and 2x, which is very limiting.

Except you can't force it to only speak one language. I've had instances where it'll speak a completely different language even though the text is in english. Without a way to enforce which language it uses, it only works 80% of the time.

But swiping down from the top just closes the screen? What am I missing. How do you control the speech, when I do get it to work there’s no speech controller or way to stop it. 🤦🏼‍♀️
