Im a commercial pilot instructor. Any pilot, sailor or traveler on cars too knows all vehicles need to have the maps or charts of the route to follow not only one and the others "follow me". What about if the ship or vehicle in front loose the others in a storm or simply at night? The others, with no maps or idea where they were going will get lost.
Magellan didnt want to share the maps of the voyage. It is one of the rules of fleet or multi vehicle navigation. Magellan didnt give any maps of the route to the others ships, only the Portugese crew one in which he was too. That is a huge violation of navigation rules.

Im a pilot instructor. He lied to the others about giving them the maps after a while, but didnt. And that is why the 3 Spanish Captains of the other ships were mad and rebelling. They noticed the devilish plan to get them lost by Magellan. Huge Magellan Devilish Plan to make the Spanish get lost suw no maps for them, and he and the Italians and portugeese navigate only and put down Spain sailors.
He wanted the Spain crews to get lost, of course. That is why the others non portugese mutiny againts him. The liar also become a murderer of spanish sailors that rebelled due his devilish plans.

Then in the Pacific, his arrogance made him try to defeat about 1, 000 islanders with only about 50 Europeans. The liar arrogant got killed. Spanish Captain Sebastian Delcano decided to circumnavigate instead of backtrack which was the initial plan of Magellan, which also lied about the size of the pacific ocean.
Magellan was a liar a traitor. and a murderer too. The Spanish ship San Antonio, when Magellan killed the 2 other Spanish Captains for asking for the maps, San Antonio Captain returned to Spain in anger (Of Course), told the Spanish Courts about Magellan devilish plan and murders of the other 2 Spanish Captains. Magellan was tried in absentia, comdemned to be hanged if found alive. But the arrogant crook was killed in the pacific islands, Sebastian Del Cano decided not to go back to the huge pacific ocean and round South america also. He did right and completed the circling of the planet. Sebastian Del Cano, not Magellan was the leader. Portugeese fooled you for 500 years..
