John Palfrey stimulated a conversation about the intersection between a growing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the tradition of free expression on campuses. His remarks were followed by a conversation with Martha Minow and questions from the audience.
John Palfrey is the Head of School at Phillips Academy Andover and Incoming President of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Knight Foundation. He also serves as a Board member of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, the Boston Athenaeum, and The MIT Press. His research and teaching focus on new media and learning. He has written extensively on Internet law, intellectual property, and the potential of new technologies to strengthen democracies locally and around the world.
Martha Minow is the 300th Anniversary University Professor at Harvard University, where she has taught since 1981; she served as Dean of Harvard Law School for 8 years. She is an expert in human rights and advocacy for members of racial and religious minorities, women, children, and persons with disabilities.
