If you fail the manure shoveling minigame you can't go around him since you need the jerry can from completing it, triggering the "gas prices" response. I wish it wasn't a requirement for the true ending. Not to mention you still have to complete the minigame anyway to get the shovel. Additionally if you fail to grab the shotgun from the farmhouse at the start of the game you automatically get a game over when you get to the Liberal Wife boss after running him over. You also have to beat the Glimbo fight which can only be triggered by clicking a bag of gold hidden near the fireplace.
