I have been watching cricket since 1983. Irrespective of what has happened, for me if a best ever Indian team is selected in any format Md Azharuddin will be an automatic choice in the middle order. There was a very true saying in those days that, if you watch Azhar playing in full form for 2 hours then you don't need to watch cricket for the next 2 years.

Azhar was Emotion in The Way he belted Lance Klusener at Kolkata and Capetown was 5 Centuries in Eden Gardens ... And 3 back to back centuries in England in Consecutive Test Matches.

That 96'World Cup match gave goosebumps, as a kid, and still gives. At that time, India, more often than not, used to lose to Pakistan. '92, '96, '99 (under Azzu's captaincy), '03 World Cup matches were the most nervous and most memorable matches, as Pakistan used to have stronger teams than India, and India used to heavily rely on Sachin's batting. Then India's middle-order slowly became stronger after Dhoni's and Yuvraj's arrival at No. 5 and No.6, and every batsman in the Indian team started regularly contributing with the bat.

All 3 different individuals, have shown us how success changes lives. Sanjay was hailed as the next Gavaskar, dubbed as the most difficult batsman to be dismissed by none other than Imran khan after his majestic double hundred against Pakistan, in Pakistan. However, too much obsessed with technique - he could not score runs in ODI s, dropped from the ODI team and lost his place in Test team as well. Venky, started as a fierce fast bowler who does not eat meat - and does not have the strength and stamina to bowl longer spells and after initial success intake made with fellow pacer Srinath, could not get wickets and disappeared. And Azharuddin, started as a wonder boy with 3 consecutive centuries against visiting English team, promoted as hard working poor Muslim boy to scale new heights, started modeling, married a Dubai shark’s daughter, ditched her for a Hindu model, and then fixed matches ! ( ‘ mainey match banaaya” - in his own words in front of chandrachud committe) and banned for life !! What an epic fall for otherwise extremely successful, magician with bat and a genial person. Never let success gets to your head or else …
