I so appreciate the simplicity of this video. No unnecessary graphics, no introduction that takes up 5 minute to actually start showing what the title said it would, no sharing of any personal stories that were uncalled for, no stalling of any kind.
It showed exactly what I needed and nothing more. Now my camera works! THANK YOU.

Great video. Thank you!

Couple of points (having actually performed this fix on precisely this lens following this video). That tiny pin that is attached by a wire to the inner right of the lens (as unscrewed at 4:00) is a four-piece spring-loaded pin. If you pull gently on the ring, the wire can separate from the spring loaded pin. If this happens, it is only a matter of tiny knocks before the tiny black plastic insulator ring is fired across the room. Work in a clean space to avoid losing parts.

If you do separate the wire from the spring loaded mount, you will need to solder the wire back on to the spring-loaded pin. Because the "open" spring makes it impossible to do this, thread a piece of cotton through the middle of the spring and tie it tight. Put the pieces back together, solder it up and then cut the cotton.

The iFixit Essential ElectronicsTool Kit was extremely useful in replacing the broken mount ring.

This is a great video - needs no words, super clear and works!! Recommend magnetised screwdrivers and attach spring before remounting ring so that the spring is only under tension when attached at both ends and so less likely to ping off!

Thank you, now have my favorite camera back!

For those of us with bad eyes, a magnifier is a must. The screw for the spring loaded clip was the hardest for me. I ended up breaking the little wire too and had to solder it back on. Also, all kinds of shims will fall out if you turn it upside down to get dropped screws out! They have to go back in a certain way.

One thing that made it easier for me was to turn the lens so that the glass portion drops a bit. Didn't have any issues with that tricky part with all the contacts.

Took me about two hours I guess, but mostly because of just having bad eyes. It was a great learning experience, would do it again!

Made sure to clean the inner lens followed with a good blast of compressed air to get any bits of the old ring out.

Excellent vid. I dropped the exact same lens which resulted in the same damage. I considered buying a new replacement but then thought about repairing my own. This vid has encouraged me to give it a go - Many thanks.

Be very careful of that wire. Mine broke too but was able to strip some of the wire and use the compression ring to replace it. Works again! I will never pack my wife's camera in checked bags :)

Superbly demonstrated! Copied your recipe and fixed my lense :-)) You are a gift to humanity ;-)
Tip: I found it even easier with magnetic Philips screwdrivers.

Your old bayonet ring looked JUST like mine! Nikon engineers have work to do.

You saved me lolI took my lens to Mike's camera to see if they could fix it for me and they told me no that it was useless now. Said I might as well just throw it away. I couldn't do it. My lens has been broken for so long. Thank you much :)

Thanks for the video, showed what i needed. Incredibly good pointer Toby Haynes, work in a clean space. I dropped the screw that holds the brass bracket on with the spring loaded wire / ball point / contact point thingy and thought the screw fell further into the lens. I got way more intimate with the lens than I wanted to but saved me money on a new lens!

Very useful. I had a problem in that on my lens, as I tried to remove the aperture stop down rod/ring (as you do at 3:50 on the video) I could't take it out; it was still retained deeper in the lens, so I had to remove the two screws that attached the rod to the ring. The screws had thread-lock applied, so I had to reapply it to make sure they stayed and didn't become loose. Fiddly to reassemble, but all good in the end. Thanks for that.

Life saver . Thanks a lot buddy. I was able to fix mine. Although I snapped the thin wire accidentally and had to solder it. Was a pain in the ass but all is well in the end

Great video. Watched it through and then followed it when doing the repair. My comments echo an earlier poster. Should use a Phillips head screwdriver. The wire is attached to the pin with the black ring. If it becomes separated, remove the ring, put the end of the wire in the ring and feed it back onto the pin. Reassembly of the two inner pieces is easier if done together. Thank you for your post

EXCELLENT video. Looks very easy when you did it. I found the tiny screws fiddly and took much longer, but worked brilliantly. I was quoted 60Pounds+VAT! Bayonet cost me 2.99 on Amazon. THANK YOU!

Great video! Bought the mount on Amazon. Rubbed the screw drivers on a magnet to make them magnetic, worked great! Thanks!!
