I can relate to this skit. Worked in ER for 15 years and part of my job was doing vitals. There were a number of times we had to go through this crap. Policy of department was any patient 3 and younger or any patient incoherent had rectal temperature. In our department ear and/or scan thermometers weren't allowed (other departments used them though). And bowel movements are way larger than the small probe.

As a gay man whose fiancé was a ER nurse for years and after all of his stories I find this line of reasoning ironic. He said it was never the gay guys that had to come in with an object lodged in their rear… every single time it was a straight guy (or at least said they were straight).

He said he’s heard too many dudes saying, “I swear dude I am not gay.” In one of his stories he says after a guy said that too him he responded without thinking, “I know, gay guys are smart enough to use something with a base.”

Actually dealing with an elderly man who came in very anemic and revealed he's been having bloody stools for about 1 year. He refused rectal exam, refused GI evaluation, states there are parts of him NO ONE should have access to. He's willing to die on that hill literally.
This may be coming from a place of trauma but he does not want to talk about why he feels that way
