The older trucks will always be in demand. The new ones are all over priced through away junk .👍

New trucks will always be around it can be bought after establishing yourself and ur finances. Older truck is a good way for a new owner op, 2007 and older to avoid DEF and DPF. Top 3 engines to consider Detroit 60 series, most caterpillar motors and Cummins N-14 motor. Suit & tie guys can't take older truck from u cause u got title in hand, but let them find out ur near completion of lease on ur new truck and suddenly u see less work for u from dispatch, u can't make ur payment and b4 u know it ur keys are gone, and the next sucker fresh out of school is signing the dotted line to take your keys and the potential dpf problems u used to have when u drove that truck...if u are gonna buy brand new truck have 10 yrs exp, pay $150+ cash and keep old truck as spare.

I agree 100%
I've been an independent owner operator since 2011
I bought a 2002 century with Detroit 60 13 speed and still using it. Of course I had in frame rebuild and replaced the transmission recently and some brake and alternator and radiator stuff done to it, but that truck paid for itself in first eight months. Most definitely you should have money in your bank before you buy any truck no doubt about that. One of the key aspects in being a profitable owner operator and I'll put that on top of the list is to have a good honest mechanic, they are despairing quickly. I wish you all good luck and stay safe out there.✌️😎👍

This is so on point.I survived the lease purchase on Schneider’s tanker side.Just finished paying for it and won’t be doing that again .Four and half years paying my 2016 cascadia now finally I can make proper money and yes your right 100k plus is very possible. This definitely is one of the most helpful and spot on video and everyone should listen to this. The four thumbs down I don’t get ....🇬🇧🇬🇧

HT logistics 3434 joined the FLD club as well. As for me 2 years ago I bought my 2013 volvo for 15k got the red isx15 with all bells and whistles a. K. A def egr and dpf buuuut I never idle and always change the oil exactly at 10k miles and it has never given me no problems. Right now the rates are great at Landstar and insurance is dumb cheap going back back to Cali Cali to make that paper.

All of that touted fuel savings is lost in depreciation, financing, higher costs to maintain, downtime etc... At best.... it is a wash. And yeah.... pump the money into the old truck to enjoy the ride.

Man you make excellent points. Me as a previous driver I would much rather have a Pre- emissions truck like yours that I could say I knew more about it's reliability..

2015 Columbia gluider with 12L Detroit with no egr or dpf, with cold air intake will always hold its value.

I'm so happy I watched this. Idk if you remember one of my previous comments but I'm gonna start trucking school in January with a goal (and dream really) of basically being where you are now as an owner operator. And from watching you and AK and OTRookie what I've learned already, I'm happy I know before hand how bad the lease purchase is. I would never ever buy a brand new truck. I'm perfectly content with an older truck. I just dont know which brand would be best suited. I have a long way to go obviously before I should even start thinking about it but, just thinking ahead for fun you know?

Here's my comment & I really don't care what anyone thinks. Your 1000% right. Paid off older equipment will ALWAYS be better than a newer vehicle. Plain & simple no emissions & sensors that control the truck. If a 1 box goes down on a def controlled truck its anywhere from 9-11, 000💰💰💰. You can get a Detroit or Cummings rebuilt at Freightliner 4 that price. Run the truck & save your money, it will pay 4 itself in 3-4 months if you play it right. Everything he says in this video is the GOD'S honest truth.

Yep that the reason we keep going in circle financial majority of people, cause u want to buy something u don’t have money for, cause u haven’t thought yourself discipline financially, cause these grabbing u, that, and so if your wondering why financial people get to those successful places that why cause they learned how to cut out all the noise and work hard save and bam like magic they don’t think about what to do when the money calls they got it, feels like every time I’ve heard message like this it’s brought me back to same point don’t blow money on everything find the things u need to live and put money towards that until u get it and then save some more to Maintain what important things u got than u can look to polish up what u own

Everything you said makes sense. I am starting to look for a truck myself. Thanks homie rant on....

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks for the sincerity in this great video. I would love to have a new truck but it just doesn’t make sense to buy one and go neck deep in hock for it. Plus you can personalize an older truck so much easier and cheaper than a new one.
