This line of thinking is ok but it's not everything and lends itself to focusing on designing things for money instead of providing fun new experiences. It's a AAA mindset which is where you find yourself when trying to sustain a business. It's not indie-thinking which I think is food for thought. To pursue what's in our hearts vs what we need for our bellies.

I think there's a misconception here. Watching something is different than playing. Your game don't NEED to be fast paced and visually striking, but it might not be as easy to market.

stardew valley is the reason why UNITY became greedy. the guy was earning tens of millions of dollars and they want a piece of that pie.

"It's the fault of the consumer" is the mentality that got the gaming industry to its current sorry state. pointing at the players and saying "You are in the wrong for preferring this" is a losing tactic.
