Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan (UFC 300 Gracie Breakdown)

2-minute breakdown on why Arman Tsarukyan didn’t tap to two of the TIGHTEST Charles Oliveira submissions.

For the record, I think Oliveira won the fight (and I have zero bias towards Brazilians or Jiu-jitsu 🫡 ) but it was very impressive how eager Tsarukyan was to grapple with Charles.

Who did you think won?

Charles tryed to catch his leg in his darce choke attempt, but Tsarukyan defended very well

Great breakdown. I remember Charles trying to hook a leg in on the darce choke but Arman kept evading it.

Those Eurasian guys are tough as nails. They honestly have a mentality of not respecting any chokes/locks and would honestly go to sleep or break/tear a limb. Sometimes it pays off, like in Arman's case of nearly choked twice and having him arm popped, but sometimes its really to their detriment, like how Bayaduran is probably still on crutches to this day or how Mokaev had a grade 2 tear from a kneebar.

Arman always had counter moves every time Charles wanted to submit him.

The end of the 2nd round he had a picture perfect triangle armbar with the arm tucked tight! Maybe Arman let up knowing the time would run out but it looked nice!

Thanks for the breakdown. Oliveira tried to grab Arman's leg, but Arman fought it off.

Arman is an excellent wrestler, it's hard to choke him as he trained his neck that potential situation

sorry to say, arman is not your student..Olivera tried so many times to go top of the body but he failed Arman well aware that technique.

You can't finish a D'arce from front headlock without trapping the leg. Sure, you can tap newbies and mid levels without trapping the leg, but not on a guy of Arman's caliber.

I think Charles got comfortable in those last seconds, he looked like he was squeezing maybe 70%...Maybe he wasn't aware that the round was about to end, else he would squeeze for his life

I love how you acknowledge Charles knows exactly what he’s doing but in the heat of the moment vs the top guys, it’s not that simple.

Great breakdown, the leg pull is a very smart move.

Awesome breakdown

I want to see
Oliveira vs Gamrot next
Gamrot has a win over Arman so if Oliveira can get a win out of him he's right back in the title picture

Arman was able to block Charles from being able to step over to hook a leg. Maybe he felt like the sub was going to give him the round vs letting go to throw some strikes to finish strong. Also I wonder if he could have switched to a Peruvian necktie a bit earlier, would Arman have been prepared to defend that?

Thank you! I kept wondering why Charles was just hanging out in the "arms only" D'arce instead of working to turn him over.

This is good that you clarified this because Olivia was trying to make the crowd think he had Arman in trouble with that weakass darce choke in the end.
