Disgusting. It’s amazing children were ever conceived. This makes me itch. I’m not kidding.

They could build magnificent palaces and complex water fountain pipe systems but couldn’t figure out what to do with their waste? That’s illogical….

The best part of the day is when I have my morning shower.

Now that I’ve watched this video I understand why so many women died shortly after giving birth, and why so many kids did not survive past their first few years.

This is the reason when I heard people who read period romance novels wishing they lived in those times I gave them the side eye. I do not want to live in a time before running water and toilets. It's bad enough now when we do have those things.

My mom was born in 1924, there were five daughters and the step mom. They used rags for their periods, washed them out and reused them.

I think our higher lifespan depends on our high hygiene standards, we should maintain our high hygiene standards and give high respect to the cleaning staff!

The French didn't invent perfume. Perfume existed already in Mesopotamia', ancient India and the first perfume factory was found in Cyprus ( 4, 000 years old).

Didn’t these rich people like to be clean? I can’t imagine not bathing and putting on clean clothes

They built splendid palaces, wore ornate clothes but personal hygiene was missing and drainage system was totally undeveloped. 😮

Never understood the romance many have with the past. The smell... like an over filled barn on a hot day after a downpour, all day, every day... combined with overloaded attempts to cover such up. 24/7 migrane and nauseous, trying to choke food down while drinking some warm whatever, never ending stomach pains and itchy privates. The fact they had sex is amazing, and rather telling as a species. Makes me appreciate AC, running water, and waste management.

Always knew things we're unsanitary back then. I have much gratitude for today we all should 😸

I have visited Versailles castle several times. Facts: Some women had pig bladders sewn into their dresses to relieve themselves, everyone wore perfume and powdered their wigs. Bathing was basically unheard of and there were servants that carried chamber pots, unfortunately not enough for everyone.

How is it possible that THOSE stinky and nasty people colonized almost the entire world?

This is a side of history that is seldom explored. Tough stuff.
