My friend just recently showed me how to play this game. It wasn't very challenging as far as strategy because Jacks and Queens were dead cards. So I came up with the "LaBelle Garbage" version that adds a nice twist: a Jack allows the player draw again, a Queen allows the player to swap one of their down cards with another players up card. So if your 2-spot card is down and another player's 2-spot is up, you swap cards. We state before the start of the game if the Queen is allowed to steal a King (usually not allowed). Also, a Queen cannot take a card from the person who turns up all cards on their last play.

I was taught this by a fellow kid at daycare, who inexplicably called it Space Rummy. When I used to ask people if they knew it they had no idea what I was talking about lol. But I think thats one of my favorite parts of card games, that theyre passed down in a kind of oral tradition, and like a game of telephone, things get scrambled in translation!

We just called this "tens" at school. Many of the students in grade 3-5 really enjoy this!

I play this often with my son.. we use the same rules but we use all 54 cards.. the Red Jacks are wild and holds the spot until the card that goes in the spot is found... and the Jokers are used as super wild cards, meaning that any of the 2 Jokers can be placed permanently in any spot

I always played it with the jack being the only end of turn card, the king being wild, and a queen being draw again.

If you draw a King and place it in a number slot and the face-down card is the number of that number slot, can you place that number slot card there and move the king to another slot?

I assume I'm the last round that only Ace can be Ace, as in no wild cards?

Is there a rule for going out with a (pick your variation) K/Q/J? Say the last card left to flip up is a Q/J/K underneath, and you're lucky enough to flip it over to complete the round. Do you HAVE to discard it, allowing a chance for the next player to complete the round? (We play this way.) Or, can you cutthroat the move, keep the J/K/Q and discard the draw? (We also play this way.)

I recently started playing a coworker on our lunch break. We've introduced our own end-of-round rule we call the "Hail Mary" (sports reference): Someone completes the round and you're on your last shot. You don't make it and would normally be forced to try again next deal. HOWEVER. IF you flip up the failed cards and they're EXACTLY what should be there - cant move a wild card - your hail mary gamble wins you into the next round. *crowd roar*

If you only have one deck but four or five players, could you have everyone start at six cards?

More than 3 players use two of cards. Also, depending on what region of the United States you live in, it is called Trash. I play the game all the time with my students.
