SCP-011 - Sentient Civil War Memorial

SCP 011 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as Sentient Civil War Memorial.

SCP-011 is a Civil War memorial statue located in Woodstock, Vermont. The statue is the image of a young male soldier holding a musket at his side, and is carved out of granite quarried within the area. Occasionally, SCP011 has been observed lifting its musket to the sky to fire at birds which attempt to land or defecate on it. Reports detail that its movements produce soft grinding sounds but do not cause it any structural failure. Oddly, the gunfire is very similar to that of a standard firearm, despite observations that the item only loads granite bullets and granite powder into the musket (which is also unharmed by the firing). In spite of its efforts, some fecal matter does manage to strike SCP 011, and it has reportedly become distressed when it has had a large amount of feces on it, on some rare occasions even firing at humans.

You can tell this is an extremely early SCP because they didn't immediately black-bag it and amnesticise the whole town from the start. It's amazing what can be accomplished by just talking it out with a sentient SCP ("Hey, maybe don't shoot things"), and even giving it some leeway (the museum idea was a great compromise, and Dr. Khan must have some real pull to get reassigned like that).

Still, nice to see a positive story.

When I first read about this SCP, i immediately thought back to an old flash game that existed which had the exact same premise. In the game you played a sentient civil war statue and you shot at the birds before they could poop on you. As the game progressed you unlocked more powerful weapons, including a machine gun and rocket launcher if I recall.

I wonder if the game inspired this SCP or vice versa. The game probably can’t be found anywhere though; after flash died in 2020 it’s probably unplayable

Cool, Vermont finally made it on the channel. The Stairwell will always be my favorite one but I always love to see New England SCPs outside of Massachusetts (because thats where practically all of them come from) made into videos and as far as I know the Civil War statue is still all we have in Vermont unless you count that one that teleports all over New England to random zoos.
