For a nation that is so technologically advanced yet so many years behind socially is astounding

It's so mind bobbling how a place like Japan where people are so closed and clump together. Still suffer from loneliness.

Japan is extremely introverted and closed as a culture. When I was an exchange student in Asahikawa, my "big brother" and I would ride bikes to school. I was greeting other cyclists when we passed them until my big brother told me not to. He was embarassed and even a little angry at me doing this. It's weird to them to be genuinely warm or friendly to people. They put a good face on but most Japanese are courteous to you because culture demands it, not necessarily out of any genuine warmth.

Imagine going to a graduation and seeing the same guy you hire for your family photo... 🤣

The lengths the Japanese will go to not have a true emotional connection

For someone who enjoys loneliness this made me tear up because I’d forgotten what true love looks like, sometimes I just feel awkward but still try to share with people what they favorite most . Sometimes candy, music and homemade foods

Sadly that’s just not how families work. There needs to be memories to really feel the moment.

If i had to pay a random group of people to come out to celebrate with me, i think my body would just automatically give up. No offing myself needed.

That's both ingenious and tremendously heartbreaking.

"Professional family" is not a combination of words I ever expected to hear.

I'm an introvert so I enjoy being by myself. I don't have a "need" to be around others. As an over-the-road driver being by myself was one of the things I really appreciated about the lifestyle.

The job is so rewarding in a sense that you can somehow fill the loneliness or emptiness of someone else.

Come to the Philippines, study here and live here for a while. Youll realize everyone can still afford to smile no matter how much life sucks. But we all manage to get by.

I don’t get how this is possible considering how many people live in Japan. Like damn, if everyone is so lonely and there are that many people willing to pay for that kind of company, why not just have the lonely people meet up with each other to create actual emotional bonds and friendships?!

It's really sad that people are going through this but it's kinda heartwarming that there's a business intending to take care of those people, as long as you don't consider the possibility that the actors are only in it for the money which is the likely alternative

I think many places need this sort of service.

I think something similar would be good for our senior citizens. Some kind of service. So many get forgotten.
