Glad that you are posting also about the dark side of this whole situation!
I really want to punch Ahmed here. I sympathize with him for his difficult childhood and all the problems he’s currently facing, he’s not a bad person, but with Nasya he is awful. Of course he is sweet to her too, but it’s all ON HIS TERMS. He’s not interested in her side of the story as long as she plays in the fairytale he chose for them and imposes on her. He is a classic “nice guy”: being nice, but when he gets something in return, here her being with him and being his “light in darkness”. But he disregards what she wants and her feelings & pain. He does not even try to show her understanding or some sympathy. He makes EVERYTHING about himself.
The moment she admits she wants to return home, he punishes her by withdrawing his affection from her (and he's the only source of affection for her in this palace and among all mistreatement she receives) and is all how dare you hurt ME and MY FEELINGS. And even further continues to guilt-trip and manipulate her: but you kissed me, and I was so good I did not force you to do so! So how dare you still want to go home? This is painful to watch. He wants to cut her off from her family to make her life revolve around him, so she would only be focused on him. Truly, to be happy in this palace she has no other choice but to fall in love.
This is not true love, it’s Stockholm Syndrome. And as for Ahmed – how can you love someone truly and yet force them to love you and don’t care about what THEY want? Nasya broke my heart, she sees now how helpless her situation is, even Ahmed realises she’s so unhappy she might even kill herself. Slowly she becomes resigned to being forced to forget about her past.
