Honestly, this wasn't staged. I was testing out R2, at the exact time a big clap of thunder went off from this crazy storm we had roll through. I had just activated his "scream" sound - seemed to work out perfectly.

Perfect timing and how wonderful you have an R2 unit. I am about to start building one myself but it kinda scares and excites me at the same time.

Hi KingZuluKing, this was actually built, a lot from scratch, and some parts bought from other R2D2 builders around the world. It took me about 2 years to get it to this point, lots of work and time, but very rewarding.

I've always thought that even though R2-D2 can't communicate verbally, he still manages to get his points across in Binary (that's the language of Astrodroids).
Even someone who has never heard of Star Wars would be able to tell that he gets scared by the flash of lighting and then he runs into the other room to “hide” from the thunder.
