Id like to add that the extra leverage created by the clamping of a caliper on a larger diameter rotor also goes along way to the performance of a big brake kit.
I fitted the larger diameter rotor and twin piston calipers off a late mode Subaru Liberty to my gen 2 (also twin piston) and the improvement was huge. Not as good as 4 pot wrx calipers but still a great upgrade.

Tires and the compound are what stop you. The brakes are one part of stopping the car, and are what turns the momentum into heat. The rotor size is what is important and the caliper less so IMO. I have great calipers on my car, but the rotor isn't large enough when you have 400WHP and mid to high 100's mph is pretty easy.

Hi! Your comment mentioned that big brake kits with stock pads would not be effective. Since big brake kits use non-stock performance pads, your comment wasn't accurate. You actually often have a specific choice as to which specific performance pads (street, track, etc.) your new kit will ship with. Gotta love BBK's ! i wanna get a set for my supra because the brakes feel like a 90's car which is very dull and fades easy. I don't have the TT style calipers so they aren't as good but i wanna get an nice BBK for the fronts.

One of the other reasons big brake kits work significantly better is simply physics.

The further out the caliper is from the center mass of the hub the easier and less force is required to stop or slow down the car. Its sort of like if you spin a bicycle wheel its easier to stop it from grabbing the outer most part of the wheel than the inner most part. Sort of like leverage. My plan is to do a nice big brake kit that fills as much space of the front wheels as possible. I just need to do research on what works best with what since i don't have my factory wheels on. I know there are many factors to take into consideration. like rotor size, caliper style floated or not, rotor hat style etc. really would love to feel the difference on my car once i do it.

The problem then becomes the tire.  If people change out to a huge brake kit with winter tires or something w/ less grip, w/o ABS they will lock up at like 70mph and crash from a skid out
