Great tutorial, could you tell me if there is a way to stop the host changing the time on the VMs, I'm unable to change time on host or Zone UTC, Thanks

So, do I need vCenter or vSphere in order to manage an ESXi server? Or are those utilities are are primarily used when you have dozens of these things that you need to keep track of?

I learned a few new things I did not know about.
I know how to create the user and add permissions to said user.
But did not know about the assigned roles for users. Useful information.

However, there is one thing that I would say could have been changed in this video.
Assign the ISO to the VM during creation, so when you launch the VM for the first time, it will load the ISO and install the OS.

This is what I do for all my new ones. (I clone a LOT of VM's)
For Windows Server / SQL Server
I will assign 3 CD-ROM drives.
Assign each
1 OS
2 SQL Server
3 Tools.ISO file

Inside my Tools.ISO file, I have
VMWare Tools
Windows SDK
And other Server goodies that may be needed for the install.

The above makes it a lot nicer to work with the VM.

Have a good one, and continue the excellent work.

Its good but im having one issue i followed your set up to an exact t almost but im doing this offline through a router and i cant seem to launch it from the command launch remote console. its at 10:20 into the video it does not allow me to open it that way so it does not give me the option to boot it from a usb that i have in the host computer. What can i do because the ios is downloaded onto a usb thats on the host computer?

Great video! Quick question, how do I pass-through a graphics card (gtx 1080 for example) using VMWare workstation pro 12.5? I mean if I were to have a second graphics card.

Great stuff. So I'm very familiar to ESXi 4, which requires vSphere... I see at 6:30 you're logging into the same basic interface, but with a browser...do we no longer need vSphere with v 6.5, just want to make sure ? Just about to deploy a new ESXi machine. Cheers! Chris.

I am working on some closing documentation for a large VMware infrastructure i recently built out. I'm looking for what use to be "map view" in vSphere 6.0 but I cant seem to find it for the life of me. The end goal is to generate a topology of the virtual environment but I'm not wanting to spend hours in Visio. Any idea where the "map view" button may be or any better ideas?
