My mom fought me on this for a while, but she was finally convinced that this tree would cause long term issues. Although we were all sad to see it go, it did provide great wood chips to feed our soil.

Further proof that palm trees are big clumps of grass masquerading as trees.

Not to mention, palm trees are literally one of the fastest growing trees

Fun fact, those bananas you showed aren’t technically trees! They don’t truly form a woody structure and are considered herbs, which is impressive considering how large they get without that extra support.

The fact that palm trees are so similar to ancient tree is amazing!!

As someone from a tropical location, I promise you: Palm trees are common as grass

I didn't know they were called Royal Palm. We had a 100ft one that was at least half a century old in the backyard. We used it for target practice for ballistics because it was literally like 20ft in diameter.

Its still not dead until today and it predates all the houses in the neighborhood.

That's why NEVER plant a tree that's going to grow big, next to a dwelling! Yes they look pretty when they're 6ft tall but certain palms get huge. Always do proper research, there are some beautiful tree species that are really suitable planted close to houses. You guys did the right thing, sad to say. If only it had been planted just a few yards further out. Id be losing sleep over that huge one too tho!

I love how no matter what you do or where you go there’s always someone that will complain or say you’re doing it wrong

I heard that in the wilderness you can get water this way by cutting it and waiting a day or so, I imagine this happens because the roots are still alive trying to send nutrients and water to the rest of the palm that is no longer there, should taste slightly sweet like tree sap maybe.

Don’t worry more will grow right from the same spot, well at least you’re recycling.

For those of you that wanted to see more of the squishy stump, here you go.

I work in a greenhouse where we had a royal palm (supposed to be a dwarf variety or something. It was not). We had to top it when it got too tall and started stressing the cieling above it. Didnt get around to cutting it to a stump for about a month. One of the worst smells, as we were basically fermenting palm wine in a built in casket.

Any person that told you to uproot it and sell it has never tried it before.

Wow, I had no idea they were watery like that.
(What a beautiful home and yard you have)

These are everywhere in my area, and I live close to Royal Palm Beach, I had no idea the trunk/stem was so “sponge like” after cutting. Awesome video 🔥
