So in your opinion Tata and Mahindra base models scoring 5 stars in NCAP safety tests is of no significance because they could behave differently when they crash at higher speeds ? I'm sad that u say these Hyundai cars are meeting Indian government norms. Let me remind You, we didn't even have these norms some years ago and these norms might very well change next year whereas majority of customers don't change their cars for upto 7-10 years !

Sir. with due respect, I understand that you don't want to openly acknowledge the fact that Maruti & Hyundai's of the world are taking people for ride where safety is concerned. At the same time, you don't have to justify why these manufactures are doing what they are doing. And yes, it is a sense of pride when we see Indian manufactured cars of TATA and Mahindra scores high ratings in GNCAP. So sometimes it is ok to call spade a spade. Number 1 & Number 2 car manufacturers by volume cannot take us for a ride.

What kind o star rating expected for creta 2020 (after seltos GNCAP rating)

As you rightly do, I too thought about the absence of testing/ratings for the higher spec models. But then I felt that in this highly competitive and commercial market, as you also rightly note, where the balance sheet is likely to govern the quality of the metal sheet used, testing only top specs will lead to safety being treated as a privilege and not as a necessity. Even where both top and bottom specs are tested, that would allow companies to save face and justify their poor bottom spectrum product by saying that their top specs are better rated - leading to the same conclusion that safety is a privilege and not a necessity.

Boeing is a recent example proving, at great cost and sacrifice, that being in compliance of government mandated regulations and safety standards may not always be enough. We should therefore not cut companies dealing with matters of public safety any slack but rather encourage (and maybe compel) companies to do better than just comply with the most basic norms of safety set by any government. The dismissive response to the latest ratings is demonstrative of the approach they are willing to take on matters concerning public safety.
