Like or not, artists need social media. That's why I'm sharing healthy social media tips for artists in this video, talking about my journey from burnout to real artistic fulfillment and steady audience growth.

Ever since I switched over from Instagram to Youtube I've found (1) a posting schedule that doesn't make me feel like garbage (2) more time to make my art, hello creative fulfillment!! and (3) an audience that is constantly growing and *actually* cares about me.

The reality is that, like it or not, we NEED some sort of social media presence to market our work and scale our businesses.

Especially on Instagram! Even as a hobby artist there's still the pressure to post consistently. All for the possibility of growing in that platform. I finally stopped obsessing over numbers there, and when that happened I felt so much better and happier creating my art.

Finding your YouTube channel has definitely inspired me to try building one myself! Thank you so much for your insight! ❤️

I can relate, I found that each social media has a different type of audience. Posting my stuff actually helps me create more (and fine tune my skills). Posting on Youtube helped me learn how to edit better videos and also helped giving me more reach as well. I'm still figuring stuff out and the quality isn't the best, but I'm enjoying the process. You'll be surprised what a mid range phone is capable of doing and the tools that are available these days, makes things a lot easier. As long as the next video is an improvement from the previous one, everything will be fine

I definitely can relate to IG being very difficult…I was so close to 1k, and then got burnout with my art. I really want to start up my art career again and try YouTube, it’s a bit of a struggle but your videos have really inspired me to try.

I’m stuck right now, feeling like I should quick my management job in retail that drains me and focus on my family and my art… my Goals for my art journey are very similar to yours, so your videos always inspire me. I’m not the main source of income in my family but I think if I quit my job I would still get a part time job with less stress and a much smaller commute time. I know I’m not alone in this dilemma lol 😬
I know my dilemma isn’t exactly related to your video but in the matter of needing ‘time’ to focus art on any platform, related enough lol
Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the video! Your points are always so well thought-out and explained. As someone who returned to art in late 2017 and went on Instagram, oof, the pressure to post constantly! Pretty sure it contributed to the avoidance and unworthiness art block I've been fighting for months now. I'm trying to just detach. I am listening to your advice and suggestions about Youtube. You make a really good case for it. I'm seriously considering starting a little non-art faceless but happy channel as practice. Might actually give me motivation to learn animation, which is on my bucket list. Thank you again for the video. You give so much realistic advice and info. I appreciate that.

From one artists to another, thank you for reminding me that I need to personally enjoy the platforms that I'm on and where I distribute my artwork. I'll try to focus on that more than numbers.

I'm so happy to have found your channel. Currently, I'm still trying to build out my audience both on Instagram and here on Youtube. Honestly, it's hard. I'm constantly battling against myself if I should continue doing it or not. Thinking FOR the algorithm and getting reach is emotionally and mentally draining. I honestly like the art that I'm doing, doing youtube draw with me's, showing my art process, and above it all I want to grow more as an artist but if I keep pleasing the algorithm it just wont cut it. I sometimes would inject a few personal art projects of mine on instagram even though I know it wouldn't get traction as much as the ones I post for the algorithm just so I wouldn't technically "lose myself" to it. It sucks sometimes but I still think that this is only a part of my journey and that I shouldn't forget why I did this in the first place. Thanks so much for the rich and personal tips! I gladly appreciate it 🥰☺️

I feel really fed up of social media at the moment, I’ve also stopped making art which isn’t good. Making art for me was about expressing myself and enjoying it and then it became trying to get followers and trying to make art for followers and think what would they like instead of what I liked and enjoyed.

I think youtube works great for certain art media, the type of work that looks visually pleasing while it's made, like landscape painting. However, my work for instance, I make little comics and cartoons. they're not the most deep when it comes to their visual aspect. They rely on meaning, on jokes, on the writing that goes with it. It misses that "woa, I wonder how it's made, let's watch a 'making of' video" factor, if you know what I mean. It's very what you see is what you get. I would realy benefit from a good solid image platform, and we've kind of lost it at the moment, instagram with it's reels and low engagement certainly isn't it!
I could try combining it with videos adressing the subjects I make cartoons about, like mental health and stuff, but English is not my native language so I have a thick accent that's not really appreciated on youtube... Alas, don't know why I'm thinking out loud about this, just thought I'd boost the engagement a bit by leaving a comment! :)

Hi Kelsey! I've been binge watching all your videos lately, though I found you a year or two back. As an artist who just began their social media journey, I just wanted to let you know that this piece of advice was really helpful. Short form content is definitely easier to make and does bring in easier views. However, I realized its eating me up alive. Making me constantly refresh my pages to see if the views spiked up. Your advice to find out what platform best suits you and to really enjoy the creative process made me stop, look back, and reevaluate my approach. Thanks so much for your help!!

Thank you for this. I am not an artist in the sense that I create pieces, but I think this is so applicable all around. Your voice is calming and this video was awesome💖

I can relate very well with this. I feel a constant pressure and even zero gratification when im into growing on instagram. I would really like to be able to follow my passion and do the things the way it bennefits my creativity and my process. Im kinda strggling with consistency and feeling a little discouraged and sad about creating art. these days....

I was also worried about that growth and still made art... even when I never finish some pieces.

Hey Kelsey! Just found your channel when searching "how to have a healthy relationship with social media as a business owner" 🤓 and I am so glad I found you. I'm not an Artist with a cap A, but an artist in the sense that I am a UX designer who creates courses for UX designers. So, creative, but not painting ;). Anyways, I've been intuitively thinking that insta is not the place for me and that I need to focus on my YT channel instead and you not only validated that train of thought but also helped me see WHY that's true and opened my perspective so much. Working through your social media 101 playlist now and just loving it. Thank you so much! I know I'll be learning a ton from you.
