Woman lives alone in Taiga forest in abandoned village. Far from chivilization.
Life in a Siberian village, Old Believer and a hermit woman from an abandoned village in the taiga
Today we are visiting two wonderful people, Dmitry Petrovich and Yulia Fedorovna. Dmitry, an Old Believer, lives in the village of Khor-Tagna, recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Russia. He works as a labor teacher at a local school, does wood carving, and creates wooden sculptures with local children. Dmitry, an excellent family man, builds a house, runs a large farm, and raises an Old Believer church with his own efforts.
Yulia, a resident of the village of Khorbutyrino, lives not far from Khor-Tagna, but it is very difficult to get to it along the taiga road; in winter it is often swept away, and in summer it turns into a swamp. Therefore, people left these places and only 3 residents remained in Khorbutyrino, one of whom was Yulia Fedorovna. Her ancestors are Tatars from Bashkiria. In 1911, there was a terrible famine in Bakshkortostan, and the head of the family transported his wife and children to the Siberian taiga in order to survive, but unfortunately he himself died of typhus, having become infected on the train during the journey. Since then, his descendants have lived here, on the land that at one time received immigrants from Volyn, Bashkiria and other republics of the USSR. Life here is not easy, the winter is very harsh, but people live in peace and harmony, although at one time it was very difficult to get along and find a common language.
Public opinion had a negative attitude towards the Old Believers and other settlers; it was believed that they were people who were unable to adapt to new conditions. But Dmitry and Yulia, continuing to live in their villages and preserving their traditions, prove the opposite. They not only care for their families and neighbors, but also actively participate in the development of their communities. Dmitry, working as a labor teacher and creating sculptures, contributes to the education and culture of the village. Yulia, remaining the only resident of the village, protects and preserves the historical heritage of her family. They both are examples of high morals, hard work and dedication.
We are interested in learning how our ancestors lived, to study their traditions and to master ancient crafts and meals.
We travel to different regions of Russia and show you how people live in Russian remote villages. Real Village, not embellished real life as it is. We will show you the usual village life and cuisine of different nations.
