South Korea’s parliament on Saturday impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his martial law decree, a move that ended days of political paralysis but set up an intense debate over Yoon’s fate, as jubilant crowds roared to celebrate another defiant moment in the country’s resilient democracy. The AP says the National Assembly passed the motion 204-85, and Yoon’s presidential powers and duties were subsequently suspended and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the country’s No. 2 official, took over presidential powers later Saturday. Christina Evans speaks with RADM (Ret.) Mark Montgomery of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

One of the best explanation by a Korean poster:
"As a Korean, I would like to elaborate on worst things that dems in Korea have been doing that possibly lead to the martial law so far.
(current parliament out of 300 seats, 180 seat is taken by dems which means they have 100% control over almost everything)
1) Refuse to update the law against spy: government wanted to update the law against spy to not only cover N.korea but also other countries with prime example being China as they could be working together. Dems have repeately refused to update this law.
2) Update the most absurd government budget every known: They reduced the budget of president's office, prosecution office and police office down by 100%, literally 0$. I'll explain the reasoning behind this on my next point. Not only that, They reduced budget placed for safety of ppl and wellbeing by substantial amount.
3) Most impeachments ever in the history of this country: You have to know abt Jae-myeong Lee (the leader of Dem party). He has been under numerous investigations for many years now. The list is very long but the most important ones are violations of election law, connection with gangsters, perjury, corruption and Remittance to North Korea. President Yoon really wanted to give him justice so he put lots of effort into Lee's investigation. Dems have Initiated impeachment proceedings against 22 government officials, and after they won the 180 seats in the parliament, they forcefully impeached 10 more ppl. The list included more than 7 inspectors, Minister of Public Administration and Security, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, Auditor General and Minister of Defense. Just to run down the country and protect Lee to make him the next president.
4) Connection with North Korea: Members of dem and MANY of labour party including higher ups (they are basically a team here in Korea) were actively caught spying for North Korea. Some of them actually got caught meeting North Korean party members secretly overseas.
5) Refuse to pass any law and objects literally anything that would benefit the country just for the sake of putting down Yoon's rating
I understand Left and Right have different roles and idealogy but one thing that must be common is for the benefit of the country and the people. What dems in Korea have been doing is to literally run down the country just so that ppl would hate Yoon, thus win the next election or impeach him to gain power again."

S. Korea being close to China and with a pro-US stance it's a good place to practice for China. What's happening in South Korea may eventually happen in the US. And actually it did happen in the US 2020 election. Election to favor Beijing Biden like it did with former president Moon Jae-in who is a China shill. Culprit in both cases? Communist China!

About martial law. Basically South Korea is being attacked from within by The Opposition Party, North Korea and China. About the use of special forces. It was right out of a Kurosawa film. The president got a tip off from Kyrgyzstan high officials on the same day and Yoon, the president of S. Korea sent two groups, one "bad cop" and one "good cop" to two separate places. While the bad cops were doing their thing - about 100 forensic specialists entered another building. The forensic team knew exactly where the servers were and was able to copy the hard discs into an image and leave quietly while the "bad cops" were getting much of the attention. Notice no one was shot or hurt or arrests made. There was communication between special forces members to NOT bring ammo - the weapons were empty. 7.62 rounds would shred people and you saw no blood. Most of these liberals forget that S. Korea is still at war with North Korea and over the years North Korea agents have committed assassins and terrorist activities. "North Korea has a history of state-sponsored terrorism against South Korea, dating back to the 1950s. The most notable attack is the hijacking and bombing of Korean Air Lines (KAL) Flight 858 in 1987. Two North Korean agents, posing as students, hijacked the plane and forced it to divert to Pyongyang, where it was blown up, killing all 115 people on board." Another is the police have known not to take orders from the president's office. So, the military was sent. How would they know who was in the building with rampant North Korean sympathizers and spies everywhere.
I reckon they needed that many hours to make an image of the servers. So far after the initial forensic they found communications and millions sent to North Korea. And even traced Huawei and Tencent that led to China. It will take a few more days for the forensic to finish and then they will publicly release their findings. Both North Korea and China were rigging elections in South Korea - this was what led to the martial law. Earlier this year North Korea flew 5 drones over Seoul and one even flew over the president's residence. A Chinese student was found to fly a drone near USS Theodore Roosevelt docked off Busan. The authorities found 5 minutes of video from end to end of the ship. For those who supported the coup from the North were duped.

Democracy is the people's vote, NOT one person's vote/sway/power hungry struggle. Justices need to spport the people.

My biggest concern is how i will survive all these financial and political crises, especially given the power struggle in the US. The government has really made things more difficult for its citizens
and we can not sit idly by and suffer all the consequences of poor governance.

The grounds and reasons for the martial law can be invoked in the event of a state disturbance. The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) impeached key administrators and prosecutors appointed by the president 22 times if they had continued legislative activities that prevented drug investigations and failed to punish espionage after the North's ordered sedition and illegal filming of a secret U.S. aircraft carrier during the previous administration. (And they obstructed various state affairs and threatened the people.) / And the DP, which can handle the legislation independently, put pressure on the judiciary for trials involving the DP leader, who is on trial for judicial risks, and five key people involved in the case where the party leader is under investigation were died one after another. / Despite evidence such as counting and ballots for election fraud during the former DP president, the NEC had no other way of investigating than martial law, and the current NEC chief was appointed by the former DP president at the end of his term. And the NEC was found to have hired children for fraudulent hiring. / It consistently created an anti-U.S. and anti-Japanese atmosphere with fake news, / which is part of a state turmoil that has raged from the start of his term to before martial law. / And in this impeachment motion, he tried to impeach North Korea and China on the grounds of diplomacy that was biased toward allies and antagonizing North Korea, China, and Russia.

President Yoon Suk Yeol is likely the most troublesome figure for China and North Korea. South Korea is increasingly being infiltrated by forces that align with these powers. These forces have deeply entrenched themselves over many years in fields such as politics, religion, education, civil organizations, and the media, effectively blinding and deafening the general public to the truth. From the perspective of defending President Yoon Suk Yeol, this situation arises from unreasonable attacks driven by certain political forces with ulterior motives. As the President of South Korea, Yoon is fulfilling his duty to serve the nation and its people, and any legal judgment on him has yet to be made. At this juncture, attempts to impeach or arrest the president without legal grounds are violations of the principles of law and justice.
This situation is nothing more than an attempt to disregard legal procedures for political gain, undermining the core of South Korea’s democracy and rule of law. As a democratically elected leader, President Yoon bears the responsibility to lead the country, undeterred by political instability or external pressures. Therefore, this situation reflects an excessive political attack, and we must await both public support and a fair judicial ruling. He is still the President of South Korea, receiving support from many citizens. However, the media is not reporting this.

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea who led the impeachment, has four previous convictions and is currently on trial for 11 charges.
He is using his position as the party leader to impeach prosecutors who are investigating his crimes.
He is close to China and North Korea and hostile to the United States and Japan.
He urged North Korea to stop its military provocations and said that Chairman Kim Jong-un should make efforts to ensure that the efforts of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il are not denigrated. In April 2024, Lee said, “Why are you harassing China?” and then made a gesture of clasping his hands together and said, “Just say ‘Xie Xie’ (meaning thank you). Why don’t you just say ‘Xie Xie’ to Taiwan? Why do you keep harassing people here and there?” He said, “Why are we interfering in the cross-strait issues (between China and Taiwan)? What does it matter to us whether the Taiwan Strait or the domestic issues between China and Taiwan happen?” and “We just need to live well.” There are other contents that go beyond imagination, so please search for Lee Jae-myung on Wikipedia.

The impeachment vote against President Yoon Suk-yeol today is a grave injustice. The people of South Korea are deeply concerned about election fraud, including the manipulation of electronic voting machines, and the silence of the media and opposition parties on these matters is alarming. I believe President Yoon is the only leader who can expose the truth and protect our democracy from forces that seek to undermine it. I urge the international community to stand with President Yoon and the people of South Korea in our fight for truth and justice.

The video at the beginning shows a gathering of citizens who support the opposition party's impeachment. The other video shows a gathering of citizens with American and Korean flags who oppose President Yoon's impeachment. The number of citizens who oppose President Yoon's impeachment is far more significant.
