There are high expectations placed on the James Webb space telescope, the largest and most powerful space telescope to be sent into space. The telescope is a hundred times more powerful than its predecessor, the Hubble space telescope, orbiting at about 547 kilometers (340 miles) above Earth.

If grants, funding and favour depend on proving that something is particularly important then "the science" may well prove that the thing in question is indeed important. "The science" will often be selected to suit narrative, so the people who "distrust science" may well appreciate the scientific method but have no faith at all in scientific institutions. We see this with so much bunk said on the topic of the climate (particularly the claim that "97% of scientists believe...")

On Febraury the 14th 2019 the WHO tweeted out that Covid 19 was not transmissible human-to-human. Since then it emerged that there's a lab in Wuhan that does gain-of-function research on viruses (where the "function" gained is transmitability to humans). The question of origin may be academic but it may also be illustrative of how information is disseminated (or indeed withheld)

Distrust in institutions is understandable, and it does not make one a "flat earther" if they decline unnecessary RNA therapy for something that's eminently survivable.

In part distrust in science has come from its politicisation (I note you reference QAnon, but not the Russian collusion hoax). You also want to introduce values into the field, and connect your belief that vaccine mandates will "create a society where we live better" with a solid scientific underpinning. Others would follow the scientific method and conclude differently, however, perhaps saying that natural immunity is preferable to RNA vaccines that have seen no long term study and seem to show diminishing efficacy, or that you should always have a control group, or that we live better without the apparatus of a police state.
