TLDR: Leonard is too normal to be a subject hence he's kinda broken by all the experiments while Sheldon wanted to be a subject to find the explanation of his illogical self which he cant rationalize.

Leonard is a normal guy thats why he is uncomfortable with a clinical psychiatrist mother who is very keen to find his mental faults and correlate it to any of her studies (even tho he is normal human being that doesnt require a neuropsychiatric assesent every 5 hrs).

Sheldon on the other hand is a rare specimen of a human being that is rational and dumb enough to let himself be the subject of experiment which helps him see the reason of his illogical self.
