Informative review it is a solid stills camera and good 4K 60p video capability too. hope to use it more in the future.

The R8 has a mechanical second curtain shutter, only the first curtain always electronic. The 6fps mode using this hybrid shutter mode, which eliminates the rolling shutter effect. The picture quality exatly same as the R6mkII, they are using the same sensor and electronics.

You can use the RP battery grip to but a caviat is the vertical controls don't work but it gives you extra battery, they should update with shutter sounds like Cat, car horn, whistle ect 😂

Does this camera work with HSS with no banding?

I just bought an R6 ii, but the R8 size is so much cooler, it reminds me of film cameras, and having to carry the batteries is a bit like carrying film. I'd have probably bought the R8 if it had a few of of: a rear wheel for exp comp like I'm used to, a joystick, a vertical grip option, mechanical shutter for hss wide aperture shots without the bokeh truncation, or flash sync with electronic shutter. If you don't shoot wide aperture with flash and are willing to learn a new control system without joystick or rear wheel, I think this is a near perfect digital full frame camera, perhaps the best yet and a future classic.

I may buy an R8 ii or iii in a few years perhaps it will have flash sync with electronic shutter, rear wheel and joystick. I can live without the vertical grip, dual cards and IBIS at this price point. A 35 f2.8 pancake and built in flash would seal the deal.
