TEXT
O magnum mysterium,
et admirabile sacramentum,
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,
iacentem in praesepio!
Beata Virgo, cujus viscera
meruerunt portare
Dominum Iesum Christum.
Alleluia!

TRANSLATION
O great mystery,
and wonderful sacrament,
that animals should see the newborn Lord,
lying in a manger!
Blessed is the virgin whose womb
was worthy to bear
the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Alleluia!

I don't think people understand what a bless is to have a group of people who provide such level and clear sound, just by 1 click. Much love to you all. Wish one day I have the chance be in one of your concerts.

I screamed with excitement when I saw this song uploaded, this is probably in my top 3 favorite choral arrangements ever. I LOVE Morten Lauridsen, and I LOVE O Magnum Mysterium

This is the last piece I sang -- at Christmas -- right before my daughter was born. Now, she's a toddler, and asks to hear "Mom's music": this recording. It will always hold an unspeakably precious place in my heart.

Today is the second day after the tragic incident in Magdeburg, and many of us are still deeply confused and mourning. Thank you very much for comforting us with such beautiful, hopeful music.

This will never not be one of the most beautiful choral works ever written. It’s incredible to hear in person sung by a large choir, you can feel the resonance created by the harmonies in your body. But V8 does it a beautiful justice here. Such a magical, special, holy piece.

Lauridsen's 'O Magnum Mysterium' is one of my absolute favourite choral pieces to sing and to hear. It always makes my heart swell and my eyes water. Of course VOCES8 gives us yet another defining performance of a masterpiece, bringing out every beautiful nuance. I will no doubt return many times to listen to this performance. Thank you Morten Lauridsen and thank you VOCES8.

Dear, lovely young people, you have made my Christmas. I am singing to God and weeping tears of love for this hurting and screaming world. This is my last Christmas as a Parish Priest, what a way to go out!. I cannot put into words how I feel. Don't ever stop doing this. Listening to you, I am filled with hope. Just back from Midnight Mass, full of joy and hope, now full of the best music in the world. Blessings from Lancashire. Rev Dave xxx

This is absolutely amazing. Been both singing this and hearing this in big choirs. But to get such a sound with so few singers is mindblowing and proves how good these voices are. Hats off, truly! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

"Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament. There you will find romance, glory, honor, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves upon earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which
every man's heart desires." - J.R.R. Tolkien

The very best Christmas present of 2024. Immanuel deserves the very best and we are so blessed. Stunningly beautiful.

Maybe some of you (like me) didnt know that Morten Lauridsen is born 1943, still alive this 2024. Maybe you (like me) thought that this is very old music? No, this is new music, and wonderful music, but in an old style. Nothing wrong with that at all. I love VOCES8´s version of this music, thank you!

Superlatives stumble over each other. The risk with Voces8 at their supreme best is, that one cannot find "better" words to describe the joy for being able, on this tormented planet, to listen to such beautiful, always flawless harmonies. And experience compassion, life, and deep emotions. In yet another one of their already perplexing choral catalogue. Yes. Gold again. Astounding. Shivers down the spine. Carry on, on your amazing vocal journey, Voces8. Humanity cannot thank you enough for what you have already done, including this magnificent Magnum Mysterium. Thank you!

I sit here in the early hours of December 28th and I simply don’t want sacred Christmas choral music to end! Thank you Lord that music will never die! O Magnum Mysterium! Alleluia!
