The verdict on Codemasters' new F1 2020 driver ratings

Codemasters caused plenty of debate on social media when it released its F1 driver ratings, which will appear in the official game for the first time this year. While the figures used in F1 2020 were based on data rather than opinion, and their main purpose is to feed a more structured driver market than was the case in F1 2019, that doesn't stop them receiving plenty of interrogation! Our F1 journalist Edd Straw takes a closer look at the numbers, working out which ones are accurate and which drivers can genuinely feel they've been hard done by. What do you make of the ratings? I love how almost every reaction to these ratings have mentioned the stupidity of ranking Vettel so low, especially when compared with how high Bottas is rated but you've somehow managed to have a go at each one of his individual ratings.

Off the mark would be an understatement.

I don't remember a single race where Giovinazzi would have been faster than Kimi. In qualifying yes, but Codemasters specified pace in race, and in that it was not only that Kimi was faster, but often also clearly faster. I don't know if there was a single race where Giovinazzi would have finished ahead of Kimi when neither of them had any problems/penalties.

Why are you so against Vettel?
If you look at overall statistics, he is one of the best drivers ever to race in F1. Last season was not his best, but still decent. Just because he lost against Leclerc by a few points in one season, does not mean that he is a bad driver.

I disagree on the pace side of things in the last 5 races of 2019 vettel outqualified leclerc in 3 out of 5 races and it should have been 4 but Bottas crashed out in Mexico which ruined Sebs chance. Seb is still ahead of Charles when he gets his act together with himself and the car

Vettel has 1 more pace then leclerc because Seb is majority of the season faster then Leclerc on race pace and quite even in quali so Vettel takes the edge.

The ratings are related with their cars

It feels like all the drivers are rated based on their entire careers while vettel has been rated based on 2019. If his mistakes bring down his awareness, then they shouldn't affect his racecraft. You can't use the same factor to bring down two different ratings
