We were so stoked to be at the Unleashed by Petco Surfing Dog Competition that happened in Huntington beach.

This was a fun hot summer day with dogs, kids, food and lots of waves.

The event also takes place in Imperial Beach, which we've also attended before. The Imperial Beach event is the original surf dog competition.

They all deserve a medal, just for being dogs ! Surfing makes them even more awesome .

This story warmed my heart. About 20 years ago while at the beach with my kids our Aussue mix chased down a loose skim board. Jumped on it, one leg not quite on the board yet. The 2nd time she nailed it & the guy let her do it over & over until she had enough. She also loved soccer. She just barged into an adult game & took over. The players were surprised at first then just went with it. She also did the same with basketball bouncing it off her head. It was bizarre. None of us taught her any of this except for catching a tennis ball & frizbie. She was just a curious dog. It's great to see people & there fur pals having such fun.

Just so ya know, the dogs that lay down are not scared. They are (for most dogs) the most enthusiastic. They really want to jump into the water.

went to this 2016 and it was EPIC, even bigger surf than 2015 i hear. Humans were surfing the outer break which was overhead and some morning barrels. The dogs surf better than many humans...Dogs were surfing from way out and surfing all the way to the sand, VERY impressive. "Abbie would go!"

I've never tried surfing, much less paddle boarding...looking forward to changing that this coming Spring/Summer...but watching the dogs do it make it looks easy! I may have to give it my best doggone try as well!
