That Winner is how you approach a design individually, it's too easy to fall into a business-to-consumer mindset, so it's essential to understand the target market.

I think these types of critiques are naturally, very subjective. Not fully, but heavily based on personal preferences. It looks like the winning redesign is very similar to your homepage for paitpro. Layout, gradients, box and text shadows, buttons, etc. The design has a nice feel, but it looks like the design was primarily extracted by using features from your website because you have a noticeable approval for this look. Its very hard not to always favor the designs we naturally like. Something that we must work hard to guard against.
