The retcon the story after tekken 2. There never was a devil gene in 1 and 2! After kazyua was thrown off the cliff the actual Devil appeared to him and offered him a deal to take revenge on heihachi. The devil took Kazyua as a vessel and heihachi won the contest against the Devil in tekken 2. They changed the storyline because in the 90s religion was taken more serious in the western market.
