Liquid Metal + Threadripper! Will It Make A Difference?

In this video, we ditch the boring old thermal paste and apply liquid metal to the Threadripper build from our previous videos! Will having this T-1000 terminator between the CPU and water block have any difference?

Just a heads up for anyone on the fence:

My TR2950X has been running Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut since day one. I swapped waterblocks at one point (from an Alphacool Eisbaer Pro to a Watercool Heatkiller IV TR4-PRO), which is the only time I cleaned and reapplied it. My IHS is mildly stained, but there's zero issue with structure, stability or performance.

It idled at ~28C on day one, and idles at ~28C today. At load, it was rare for it to go above 55C on day one, and I see the same peaks today.

Take precautions and spend some time with preparation, and you won't have any issues with it. Ignore the redditors who say it eats TR IHSes, ignore the naysayers who say it isn't worth it... for a big, beefy, power hungry and hot package... it is absolutely 100% worth it.

Get the big tube.

Just cleaned my 1950x reapplied and screwed my noctua back on 32 degrees c instead of 65 degrees...I'm now convinced I had a poorly seated cooler (for over a year)

All Threadrippers IHS's are nickle coated copper. No manufacturer uses aluminium on IHS as contrary to popular opinion, aluminium binds with oxygen instantly to create a thin layer of aluminium oxide which acts an insulator. When you remove the heatsink, you may think the LM has corroded the IHS, it hasn't. Use hydrochloric acid (weak), not alcohol, to remove the residue. I have an almost daily head-in-hands moment when I read some of the noob comments on YT and Reddit about TR-IHS and using LM in general. Stop making things up - RTFM!

Remember that you must have adequate cooling for the heat sinks, (for the temperature you want to get), otherwise that heat will stay on the sinks and the dye. And all the hustle will be for nothing!

did you just dribble liquid metal over your motherboard? :P

Isn't the coldplate made of aluminum? Thought that it would be bad for liquid metal.

I've reached out to AMD and the lid on top of the threadripper is made out of aluminium. DO NOT USE LIQUID METAL ON A THREADRIPPER.
