EZ 2003 Kia Sorrento timing marks

I was replacing the timing belt and cam and crank sensors (that's the two wires you see coming out from the middle of the timing belt there's one on the crank and one on the top right cam you can't change the one on the crank without removing the timing belt) while I'm at it you should also replace the water pump just for good measure. It's easier to do all this if you remove the radiator fans and the radiator first.

This is a very good video for illuminating those timing marks. I did indeed use cardboard under the crankshaft gear (reluctor gear) and that worked well. I also had the benefit of some Lisle Camshaft-Loks. Another thing I noticed and utilized for the sake of having another option than the camshaft-loks is that on the left set of camshaft pulleys if you will notice, just behind these camshaft pulleys are two threaded bolt holes on each(you can see one of these bolt holes in this video when he moves to the left set of camshafts). These bolt holes are metric M-8 size. I utilized these with some M-8 bolts and oversize washers to lock the left side camshafts on to their timing marks. The right side did not have the same type of configuration so I used the cam-lok there. I'm thinking though that you could pull this off without the cam-lok as that right side is pretty easy to get the belt started right on. I also used vice-grips to lightly press the belt into the pulley grooves and hold it while proceeding around the water pump and to the other set of camshaft pulleys. I also had benefit of a small inch-pound torque wrench and actual camshaft tensioning tool to set the manual tensioner to 40 inch-pounds as per instructions in a Asin Timing belt kit ordered from rockauto.com. 40 inch-pounds is not a lot of pressure and you can easily apply this pressure by using needle nose pliers in the two manual tensioner tensioning holes. I am reasonably mechanically inclined and had plenty of time to study and learn this procedure. If your in a pressure situation and do not have adequate resource or place to do this I might would hand it off to someone who does. I had a damaged and stuck crankshaft gear(reluctor gear) and next the C-key stuck in the crankshaft so it can be quite involved. I was sweating bullets on a couple of occassions.

Dont try to pry the tensioner while in place, youll more than likely break the casting on the water pump or crank. If you can pry the tensioner back while attached to the block then you need a new tensioner anyway. Just simply unbolt it from engine and put it into a vice to compress it.

the mark on the crankshaft is in between two teeth everytime i get all the marks lined up the fin on the motor is either on the left or right side of it not sure if its supposed to be like that

My timing belt has slipped twice now causing a knock (plenty of YouTube videos of same noise). The first time Beach sand got into the timing cover derailing the belt the second time the belt is loose and slipped again. Pulling it apart now to reset belt and hydrolic tensioner.

I'm working on one right now and it tell me that the right bank (left bank if we look at it from front) Camshaft sprockets need to be 7.3 and 8.7 Pitch. What does that mean? Someone took off belt and now I'm trying to figure this out.

May I ask how to pull the crankshaft pulley out after having removed center crankshaft pulley bolt ? Should I use a puller ?
