Children are Mirrors | Raising babies

The other day me and Ayzel were both asleep on the bed. When she woke up she crawls up to me and starts stroking my hair and making kissing noises to wake me up (exactly the way I do to her) and when I started waking up she gently adds "shhhhhh" (hushing noises that I make if she cries when she wakes up). First of all, it made my heart so full. My little baby. MashaAllah MashaAllah! ❤️

But it also made me think that we greatly underestimate the impact our own emotions and actions have on our kids. The time I've spent as a mother has shown me that my child will not only try to emulate whatever she sees the people around her doing but also give it back to them. If she sees someone being angry, she will show them anger, if she sees gentleness, she will show gentleness, if someone teases her, she will tease them right back.

I had read about all of these before Ayzel was born, but it is amazing to actually see how much the environment and people in it affect the temperament of such a small child.

You know, we often think a child of this age will not remember what is going on around them and even though they might not remember the exact incident, but at this point I truly think that we take for-granted how much of an impact the general surroundings might have on their subconscious and even their long-term personality.
