Way better than when I was in. I was making like $1600/mo as an E-4.

One of the big reasons I got out was because I was living paycheck to paycheck while risking my life. I got paid much better while deployed, but when I got back to CONUS, it was struggle city.

When I was in I was either losing 1/2 or 2/3rd months pay most months. Reach for the stars kids.

Their huge housing allowance is what makes finding an affordable place in a military town so hard. Their huge rents are paid by the government. Or their huge mortgage payments are paid by the government. It screws over the regular citizens that live nearby. BAH should be ended. All personnel should be required to live on base. It’s part of the reason we have a $30 trillion deficit. Nothing but glorified welfare…

Half true, your BAH is variable based on your location.

That's about my base pay. Then add in about the same in ot and dt. Then they tax the living sht out of me.

Maybe this is a little too deep for a short like this but the biggest thing I learned was to not become a "tough guy." After 3 NJP's a failed career and a divorce with alcohol problems I learned that the NCO's I had lead me should not be replicated, ya they were scary, cool and funny but none of those things ultimately lead to success or wellness in life. It's not a sprint it's a distance run. Sorry for the speech.
