I have a rolling cart kept in the kitchen filled with filled water bottles marked for the freezer. As needed they are put in the refrigerator freezer and when frozen they are moved to the upright freezer so it's not going to slightly thaw the food in the upright freezer. They are also a readily available backup water source.

I save all old clothes and cloth and cut into 6*6 & 8*8 squares and stuff into gallon storage bags ready to add a sanitizer bleach solution and a light castile soap water. You can trash or save to be washed and used again when power etc is back on.
I also bought a folding bedside commode, bags for waste and contractor bags for those. I have a cemetery within a city block flying straight as a bird, three blocks walking a paved path. I choose the cemetery for the human waste hole dumping.
We have water for a month and a dirty clogged creek nearby with silver impregnated ceramic dome filters with activated carbon, purifying tablets and pool shock.

Seeds for sprouting and microgreens( vitamin c). I have grown and sprouted store bought beans also. Apartment here and no balcony so this is my farming until enough people pass that I can grow in the complex grounds.
I have two years worth of daily multivitamins. Three plus months of scripts. Two years of OTC meds and including lots of Imodium. Cheap diapers to put in underwear for when or if stomach bug or issues happen during a shtf scenario.

I made cool packs for summer outages and a ton of blankets and mylar emergency blankets. Hundreds of tea lights and candles. I have 99% & 91% alcohol stocked for alcohol stoves. Sand and copper to make sand heatsink heaters.

Isopod colony in the thousands. Superworm colony. Mealworm colony that will provide vitamin B12 for humans. But they are for my bearded dragons. The isopods are powered orange isopods that are high in calcium and softer shelled.

I live around Richmond Va and we’ve been having water issues too. We were without for a full week earlier this month. I’ve never been so thankful for my rain catchment system for flushing. And for baby wipes 😂

A great, practical, presentation. I always tell folk to stock up on matches and lighters. So few folk smoke nowadays, sometimes getting ''a light" can be a problem.
Regarding entertainment, a couple of packs of playing cards will provide hours of fun, for all ages. Your cribbage or bridge skills will improve too !

I have three of those same black lanterns. They work well.
I am looking forward to your new book. I have all of your others.

As far as light goes I like the OLIGHT Obulb 55 Lumens. These are great if you want to get around the house inconspicuously. There are ones you can control with App also.
