The Chairman of the Board. Ol' Blue Eyes. Those are just two of the appellations applied to Frank Sinatra over his long and revolutionary career. To celebrate Sinatra’s 100th birthday (December 12, 1915) the Tierney Sutton Band launched a tour called "A Century Of Sinatra." When they brought the show to Seattle, we invited this marvelous singer and her long-time trio for a studio session.

When she wasn’t singing, Tierney talked with Abe Beeson about the lasting impact of Sinatra’s contribution to American music. She also talked about how she "gets into character" for a song and drops a few tips for aspiring jazz singers.

That's my son, Kevin Axt on bass! Even so, the band's unique jazz style, the "blend" that they are should have garnered them awards from the Grammy nominations they have received. They have a large following in Europe and the Far East, and in our near East New York's Birdland is often a site for them and if you Google the Tierney Sutton Band you will find sources for live streaming. Enjoy they will not disappoint!!

This is such an interesting arrangement. So delightfully edgy in its more minor tonality. Just beautiful! Thanks for this. I remember Tierney from her Boston days- I think Berklee educated- and I remember how much I loved her voice back then. Keep going!

Very nice. I hope to see them live at some point. A new discovery for me after hearing them on the soundtrack for Clint Eastwood's movie 'Sully'. To my mind, Tierney sounded similar to Helen Reddy during that score. I have checked the band on Apple Music and its all good.

The band performed at KSDS concert in November of last year and we''re excellent, much better live than here. Tierney's voice was wonderful and the trio played as well together as any I have heard in many decades of jazz concerts.
