For the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the 26 Opposition parties announced their alliance named INDIA, standing for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. Article 1 of the constitution says that India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States. The name "India" is originally derived from the name of the river Sindhu (Indus River) and has been in use in Greek since Herodotus (5th century BCE).
